RESULTS: Demonstration of compost utilisation
 
S.A.TI. farm operates since 1971 on produce production and processing.

The farm is specialised on packed vegetables and sells to the markets of Rome, Bologna, Milan and Padua.

Today the farm gives work to about 30 employees and cultivates 206 hectares of crop fields.
 
1st case: sandy-clay sloping soil; one field with randomised complete block experimental design with 3 replicates.

Trials made always with the same experimental design; tested crops:

Winter 2003-04:
3 cabbages varieties;

Summer 2004:
1 tomato variety;

Summer 2005:
2 watermelon varieties.

 


 
 
“Valentini Augusto” produce farm operates from 1984 with 7.5 hectares of fields of its own property and 5 ha rented.

Up to 2003 it was associated of the S. Antonio Cooperative, a produce processing factory with 40 members and about 130 hectares of crop fields.

“Salvalaio” Brothers produce farm operates since 1984 with 60 hectares of fields of its own property.


The farm is specialised in fresh produce (carrot, salad, spinach, melon) that sells prominently on the market of Avezzano (central Apennines).

The “Castello di Torre in Pietra” wine-cellar operates since 1930 with
about 50 hectares of vineyard and is specialised on typical geographical
origin wines.

The annual production amounts to 400000 litres that are
sold in Italy and abroad.



4th case: sandy-clay slope soil; vineyard field with only two treatments (COM & MIN) with single block and 3 sampling plots
 
   
Tested crops: since Spring 2004: Merlot grape (From this production is obtained the well known “Terre di Breccia”, a red wine Lazio I.G.T. of typical geographical origin, grew in purity and seasoned in barrels.
